Subsonic Music Festival 2019

With 10 years of reflection behind us, we turn our faces to the future, to enter the 11th edition of our gathering with arms and minds wide open.

This year we are truly humbled to be showcasing one of the world’s most renowned and revered musical establishments – fabric london – for their huge 20 (XX) year celebratory global tour. A venue which has cultivated a diverse, open-minded musical culture for two decades, they’ve curated not only incredible in-house experiences but long-lasting mementos, with a dynamic dual monthly mix series recently celebrating their 100th finale releases ‘fabric’ and ‘FABRICLIVE’. Their long-lived diversity shines through in the array of acts they bring in their entourage – Craig Ricards (UK), Ricardo Villalobos (CL), Mathew Jonson (CA), Margaret Dygas (DE) and Bobby.(UK). Keeping on the global tip while speaking to another now well-known festival facet – our planet’s immediate plastic problem has birthed a wave of eco-friendly initiatives we are incredibly proud to be promoting. From going single-use plastic-free, to continuing to compost festival-goers organic waste sorted by our elaborate waste-stations onsite, to having teams of personalised roving waste warriors including the Moop Troop, Trash Pixies and various educational stations onsite promoting awareness of all of our individual responsibility. These all are in echo of sentiments from an established global environmental ethos (introduced once more in the festival space, no doubt) of “Leave No Trace”, a worldwide phenomenon which has seen a rubbish-less culture spill over into surrounding societies by citizens upholding their awareness of environmental responsibilities and decisions into everyday life. Education is key; we encourage all to keep spreading the good word and to integrate these learnings as daily routine.

Taking care of the environment, ourselves and each other resonates through one last aspect of our ascension into a more-than-decade-long establishment, as this year undoubtedly has also seen a stupendous shakeup in New South Wales music festival circuit legislation. With heightened criteria to provide duty-of-care to all patrons, we have been working extensively with our state government counterparts to fulfil our obligations and ensure a safe experience, with full support from the local authorities and community as to a successful and secure event for all in 2019.

For our community, the experience that defines our year is celebrated on that first sublime weekend of summer, when we converge on the pristine slice of paradise in the Barrington Tops that we all call home. Lush, green landscapes of bushland and grassy knolls are bordered by the life-blood of the festival: the breathtaking Karuah River. It winds through the foothills of the Barrington Tops resplendent with an all-pervading sense of magic; UNESCO heritage-listed wilderness, safe-guarding remnants of the ancient Gondwanaland rainforest.

Upon this enchanted setting, a cohesive collection of unified, environmentally conscious and dedicated individuals numbering in the hundreds come together to design, build, create and coordinate a place where the weird and the wonderful meet in harmony. A place that allows you to roam free, unplug from the outside world, de-clutter your brain and reconnect with nature, audio frequencies, visual spectacles – and most importantly, each other.

Spanning across 72 hours, 5 intricately crafted stages and a plethora of local & international forward-thinking artists & performers; only your mind is the limit to what you can discover, experience and harness when it comes to the focus of our festivities – the music. And when you find your ears weary, weave your way through a multitude of interactive workshops, art installations, culinary treats, and connect with the colourful characters that besiege the surrounds.

We invite you to stimulate the senses, satisfy the soul, unwind from the grind, feel the real, dance amongst the romance and enter the eventual.

Because, after all – your future is what you make of it.
